The previous episode of naruto shippuden, Just right after Itachi together with Kisame captured the Four-Tailed Jinchuriki, they were called up by their group leader. They were informed that Orochimaru is already dead and that the one who obliterated him was Itachi’s brother, Sasuke. Upon hearing this news, Deidara was furious about it because he also had plans to eliminate Orochimaru by his own hands.

The team’s goal is to capture Itachi and detain him.
